The Big 10 Tournament will be played in Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN from March 12-15, 2009. The Big 10 Tournament is one of the “younger” tournaments, but fans have sold out the tournament and it is considered one of the best college basketball tournaments leading into March Madness.

Kentucky basketball is one of the premier college basketball programs in existence.

The new format will feature bye games for the teams which finish in positions higher than eighth, with the teams finishing lower than eight (9-16) playing in the first round. Teams finishing 5-8 will receive a bye until the second round and the top four teams will receive a bye to the quarterfinals.

The Big East Tournament will have a load of quality teams, but at least a couple teams are good enough to compete for a national title, and the Big East tournament should be a run up to March Madness.

I really wonder if this year’s entire NCAA tournament is going to come down to the ACC versus the Big East. Wake Forest and UNC are still loaded offensively, but the Big East has some serious defense. I know that UConn’s size could give a team like UNC problems, but can UConn run with Wake or UNC in the transition game? And Pitt, Duke and Marquette are all lurking.

The Giants are approaching this playoff differently this season, because last season they were the underdogs. This year there is a lot less noise about the head coach, Eli Manning, etc. Once you win the Super Bowl, it kind of shuts all your critics up.

The New York Jets will talk to Bill Cowher about their vacant coaching job, a person familiar with the search told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

While no formal discussions have been scheduled yet, the team plans to speak soon with the former Super Bowl-winning coach, according to the person who requested anonymity because the individual was not authorized to discuss the search.

Cowher has also expressed interest in the job that opened Monday, the person said, when the Jets fired Eric Mangini after three seasons.

The Jets also will meet with New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on Saturday, according to another person familiar with the coaching search. New York is also expected to interview a pair of in-house candidates: offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and offensive line coach Bill Callahan, who also served as assistant head coach under Mangini.

Marty Schottenheimer, Mike Holmgren and Jim Fassel, names mentioned in various reports, aren’t believed to be on the Jets’ immediate radar.

Last year, everyone thought Cowher was going to be NC State’s head coach, then the Carolina Panthers, since he moved to Raleigh.

This should be an high octane game between two high octane offenses. The lingering question from the past two BCS Championships is still whether Oklahoma is a nationally powerful high octane offense or will the SEC flex it’s muscle again and prove that SEC football is head and shoulders above the rest of the country? This should be a fantastic game between the Oklahoma Sooners (12-1) and Florida (12-1).
